The boil-and-bite or off-the-shelf guards that you get at the drugstore are not designed to fit the unique contours and size of your mouth. They also do not account for your unique needs. There are many different designs for these oral appliances, and the one that Dr. Shah recommends for you as a patient with bruxism may be different from what he recommends for a patient with bruxism who is also complaining about chronic headaches and other TMJD symptoms, or problems with the jaw joints.

You will then return for a fitting appointment so adjustments can be made for comfort, protection, and long-term effectiveness.
How should my night guard feel at first?
We understand that it may initially feel a bit weird to have something in your mouth while you sleep. But many of our patients are pleasantly surprised by how quickly they adjust to their appliances.
